Academic Computing Services

The Media Cloisters is dedicated to promoting and supporting the use of multimedia materials and tools for learning, teaching, and research. It is a gathering place for students, professors, librarians, IT professionals and community members engaged in planning, evaluating and reviewing the efforts of research and study utilizing the whole range of technology literacies.

 

The Cloisters is a high-tech hub with vital connections to the Learning and Teaching Center, the Library, the Reference Desk, and Academic Computing Services. The Media Cloisters is in the library, the intellectual center of the campus. Vassar supports and advocates a relationship to technology in our learning and teaching that is always informed by critical thinking.

Teaching and codifying a wide range of programming and computer applications courses in a high school setting for students enrolled in a Business Magnet Program leading to Information Technology completer status from the Maryland State Department of Education.

Computer & Drama Teacher, Shrine of the Little Flower School, Baltimore, MD 1998 - 1999

Developed and implemented computer curriculum for primary schoolwork centered on word processing, graphics, and stories integrating text and graphics. Duties included maintaining and updating a combination of Windows and Macintosh systems. Rehearsed, scripted, directed, and scheduled performances for all grades.

 

ESL 1-2 Grade Teacher, Nusantara Learning Center at the French School of Bali, Indonesia 1996 - 1998

Designed and taught lessons to a first grade classroom of expatriate children, predominantly ESL students.

 

Drama Specialist, Public School 83, New York City, NY. 1995 - 1996

Directed the drama program and taught drama classes at an inner city elementary school in Spanish Harlem.

 

Japanese Exchange and Teaching Assistant Language Teacher, Wadayama, Japan. 1994 - 1995

Hired by the Japanese government to promote the speaking of English in the public schools. Designed lesson plans, homework assignments, and tests for 400 first- and second-year high school students.

 

Vassar Maguire Teaching Fellow, Sanata Dharma University, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. 1991 - 1993

Taught English to undergraduates at a teachers’ college. Implemented a variety of upper level curricula. Focused on drama, literature, cross-cultural understanding, business and creative writing. Served students in class sizes ranging from twenty to fifty. Mastered spoken Indonesian.

 

Computer Intern, Computer Center, Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, New York. 1987 - 1989

Managed user lab and maintained services for 2,500 people. Prevented and repaired system failures, led software training workshops. Recovered lost data and repaired faulty disks and software.
