The Media Cloisters is dedicated to promoting and supporting the use of multimedia materials and tools for learning, teaching, and research. It is a gathering place for students, professors, librarians, IT professionals and community members engaged in planning, evaluating and reviewing the efforts of research and study utilizing the whole range of technology literacies.

 

The Cloisters is a high-tech hub with vital connections to the Learning and Teaching Center, the Library, the Reference Desk, and Academic Computing Services. The Media Cloisters is in the library, the intellectual center of the campus. Vassar supports and advocates a relationship to technology in our learning and teaching that is always informed by critical thinking.

 

Duties include:

  • Consulting with faculty and administrators in the use of instructional technology in support of the College Mission.

  • Planning and executing a calendar of talks and workshops for the college community covering a wide range of instructional technology topics including (but not limited to) video editing, audio editing, graphic design, web design, social networking and emerging technologies.

  • Training faculty and staff in the use of iMovie, Final Cut, YouTube, iPhoto, wikis, blogs, Photoshop, Illustrator, CS3, Screencasting, Smartboards, Audacity, Garageband, Podcasting, RSS, iTunes U, Dreamweaver, Google Earth, Skype, and and emerging technologies.

  • Managing and collaborating with two dozen student employees.

  • Consulting with faculty to design instruction and create customized workshops specific to instructional needs.

  • Producing and curating an online multimedia archive of instructional materials in support of teaching and learning.

Teaching and codifying a wide range of programming and computer applications courses in a high school setting for students enrolled in a Business Magnet Program leading to Information Technology completer status from the Maryland State Department of Education.

  • Parent/Faculty Liaison: Compiled an email database of parents wishing to receive news and notices electronically. Editing and publishing a monthly e-newsletter to promote community collaboration.

  • Prime Switch Day Coordinator: Organized and executed a school-wide freshman class exchange of all 9th graders so that all they could sample and learn from the different magnets.

  • Web Site Developer: Pioneered Carver’s first web site. Producing QuickTime and Flash movies to communicate with parents and to market Carver’s magnet programs.

  • School Improvement Team: Logistics team facilitator in preparation for accreditation.

Developed and implemented computer curriculum for primary schoolwork centered on word processing, graphics, and stories integrating text and graphics. Duties included maintaining and updating a combination of Windows and Macintosh systems. Rehearsed, scripted, directed, and scheduled performances for all grades.

Designed and taught lessons to a first grade classroom of expatriate children, predominantly ESL students.

Taught English to undergraduates at a teachers’ college. Implemented a variety of upper level curricula. Focused on drama, literature, cross-cultural understanding, business and creative writing. Served students in class sizes ranging from twenty to fifty. Mastered spoken Indonesian.
